In general, I think, Moyo's book is a hymn for a radically free market while it comes with the attitude of a rebel. This is one important reason why she is much liked, e.g. in parts of the German press.

The level of argument is desperately low. To give only one example: Africa ist the place with most conflicts + Africa receives most aid = the connection between aid and conflict is obvious. Beg your pardon, but is this the kind of science one learns from Collier?

Interesting insight on the Igbo/ Beninoise similarities. Stereotypes can be helpful but not when used to tar a whole group with a black brush.

I agree that the District 9 movie was totally distasteful and racist. It's portrayal of black people, living and having sex with aliens, that the rest of society considered detestable, was nauseating to watch. The Nigerians were depected as money loving, immoral beings, and i think we were supposed to be glad the black gangster was killed, because he had no redeeming qualities. I think this film should be declared the racist garbage that it is. I am sorry i spent my money on this film, which from the previews looked like an interesting sci-fi! What a mistake! This movie is not targetted to black people.

Ife has always insisted that these relationships were not of a sexual nature. However I do not agree as women loving women is not some 20th century invention - it is a feeling and a timeless one like other feelings. Its like saying people in the 17th century did not feel pain, or love etc.

Sorry for the delay in responding to this.
